Children in Disasters – Games and guidelines to engage youth in risk reduction
Purpose: This guideline is to provide guidance to Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies on effectively engaging in informal Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) educational initiatives. This publication is meant, in relation to DRR and education, to promote relevant initiatives in the region, identify the current roles and responsibilities of National Society at different levels, and encourage the promotion of effective child and youth-centered DRR educational activities.
Overview: The documents outlines information and guidelines on effective engagement of stakeholders, national societies and youth in disaster risk reduction and education. It includes two major parts as followed:
- Part 1: Informal Education and Disaster Risk Reduction: A Regional Guideline for Effective Engagement consisting 9 sessions on DRR and education, stakeholders and actors, drivers and challenges for informal DRR education, stories from fields, actions, actors, youth participation, informal education for adults.
- Part 2: Games and guidelines for Education and Disaster Risk Reduction: consisting 4 sessions on guidelines on games and activities for DRR and additional resources.
Audience: Communication staff, Volunteers, Principals and Teachers.
