Thai Red Cross Society (TRCS) Relief and Community Health Bureau (RCHB) has established the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion (WASH) unit to provide training on water purification process during emergencies for staffs including nurses to be able to work effectively during emergencies.

The ultimate goal of the training is to enable Thai Red Cross staff to be able to help affected communities prevent the spread of water-borne diseases and teach them how to produce safe water in the household. To scale up WASH activities, RCHB has adopted IFRC guidelines for hygiene promotion stated in the Emergency Operations Manual (translated in Thai) and offered a training of trainer (ToT) on water, sanitation and hygiene promotion in emergency for the Thai Red Cross nurses.

The Emergency WASH ToT was made possible by the Empress Shôken Fund which also support production of IEC materials, development of WASH products such as hygiene kits and menstrual hygiene kits, as well as the monitoring and evaluation of the project.

Objective

1. To enhance WASH knowledge and build capacity ofThai Red Cross nurses.
2. To develop guidelines on hygiene promotion in emergency operations and IEC materials for the Thai Red Cross nurses.
3. To develop hygiene kits and menstrual kits.
4. To ensure minimum standard for humanitarian assistance is maintained.
