Purpose: This case study is conducted for three key objectives:

  •  to assess the key program features, its effectiveness and lessons learned in implementing Dengue Fever (DF) prevention and control in urban and semi urban area;
  • to describe the interventions and provide insights and forward looking 
recommendations on the operational model for DF risk reduction;
  • to provide necessary information based on the evidence and to serve as 
communication material for VNRC locally and internationally; provide findings about BCC materials and tools used for urban and semi urban areas

Overview: The case study highlights the relevance of the program in response to increased DF outbreaks in urban and semi urban area and the need for Vietnam Red Cross to further work on evidence-based and continuously improved health intervention to mitigate the impacts of DF on the population. The case study is focused on the intervention implemented in Khanh Hoa during 2014-2015 and Da Nang Province in 2013. Findings are the program has limited effectiveness in response to outbreak areas. Several shortcomings are behaviour change communication, materials and quality of activities by volunteers.
