Purpose: This “Guide for Safer and better adapted Schools to disasters and climate change” aims to increase disaster knowledge, experience and methods for schools to raise capacity for disaster preparedness, response and disaster risk mitigation. By providing safety evaluation tools for schools to assess their vulnerability and capacity, this manual will help school managers to design a plan for creating Safer Schools in disasters and to adapt to climate change1 (known as “Safe School Plan”), to ensure physical and psychological safety of students and teachers in disasters.
Overview: The documents outlines information on safe school and disaster risk reduction and preparedness at schools. It includes three major parts as followed:
- Part 1: Introduction to Safe School: definition, contents, stakeholders, steps to create safe school
- Part 2: Details of steps to create safe school: orientation for teachers and students, school disaster management committee, vulnerability and capacity assessment, safe school plan, Plan implementation, Plan monitoring and evaluation.
- Partr 3 Annexes
