Purpose: The document provides guidance for community-based disaster preparedness and mitigation from the learnt experiences shared by the Philippines Red Cross Society and its Integrated Community Disaster Planning Programme in an efforts to provide communities with adequate knowledge on disaster risk reduction and disaster management in relation to their local risks.
Overview: The book introduces a six step model to community based disaster preparedness: i) Site selection criteria and process, ii) Partnership with local government units, iii) Formation and training of Community Disaster Action Teams (CDAT), iv) Risks and resources mapping, v) Community mitigation measures vi) Long lasting effect: Sustainability. Annexes will provide main elements for CDAT, and a sample of a community disaster action plan (CDAP).
