Purpose: Following the request of Malaysian Red Crescent of Sarawak Branch, IFRC South-East Asian Regional Delegation facilitated a three-day training on Climate Change Adaptation, together with Mr. Rozalla Iskandar Bin Mohamad Rosni, a Malaysian Red Crescent staff member from the National Office who had joined the Training of Trainers (TOT) Climate Change Masters held by SEARD back in September 2013.

Overview: The training was attended by 15 participants coming from six chapters: Sibu, Kuching, Miri, Kapit, Serian, and Stamping. The participants were trained to adjust climate smart components into their current activities.

The training employed the methodology of interactive lecture (videos, presentation power point), group exercise, games and role play.
Modules covered during the training were:
  • Basic science and facts of climate change
  • The role of the Meteorological Department
  • Red Cross Red Crescent policies, strategies, tools and guidelines related to climate change
  • Early warning – early actions
  • Climate change in DRR program
  • Health in changing climate
  • Introduction to VCA and assessing climate risks at community level and  mainstreaming adaptation into community activities
  • Climate change into chapter level  adaptation plan
